Gout

Gout is one of the first diseases ever described in western medicine by Hippocrates in 500 B.C. Gout is a disorder of metabolism, the origin of which is not clear. It results in accumulation in the blood of uric acid which is deposited in the form salts or crystals of sodium urate in and around the joints with the production of recurrent attacks of acute arthritis. The uric acid thus settling could be derived both from exiguous that is external to the body, as well as endogenous that is internal to the body sources. Gout is very common in males of middle age (around 40-60 years old), especially among alcoholics. However the disease can also afflict people without a history of alcohol. A family condition is generally obtained and the condition may be brought on in patients taking diuretics very often.
